China's automotive industry is now the world leader when it comes to electromobility - not only in terms of production volume, but also in terms of the variety of vehicle concepts. ## Who is SAIC-GM-Wuling?

 

SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) is a joint venture between the Chinese automobile manufacturer SAIC Motor, the US company General Motors and the local manufacturer Wuling Motors. Founded in 2002, SGMW combines international automotive expertise with local market knowledge - and has established itself as one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in China.

While the company originally mainly produced vans and commercial vehicles for the Chinese market, in recent years it has focused heavily on the development of small electric vehicles.

 

## Successful model from the joint venture: the Wuling Mini EV

 

SGMW became particularly well known with the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, an all-electric subcompact car that quickly became one of the best-selling electric cars in China.

## Turnover and sales figures

 

In 2024, SGMW sold a total of 1,540,077 vehicles, an increase of 9.76% compared to the previous year. Of particular note is the New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) segment, in which SGMW sold around 800,000 vehicles, accounting for over 50% of total sales and representing an increase of 63% compared to the previous year. The car manufacturer SAIC GM Wuling - ARI Bruni and ARI Poly: China's cult electric cars at ARI Motors

The bakery "Bäckerei Hafendörfer" in Stuttgart shows that tradition and progress are by no means mutually exclusive. The family business, which has been in business for over 120 years, has opted for an [ARI 458 Box XL](/en/light-electric-vans/ari-458/box) with a roller door in the box body as the electric bakery vehicle. In this way, the daily baked goods and confectionery goods can be transported from the bakery to the company's five stores in Stuttgart or directly to the customer.

 

The brothers Falk and Dirk Hafendörfer chose the manoeuvrable [ARI 458 Box XL](/en/light-electric-vans/ari-458/box) to be able to make deliveries in the narrow streets of downtown Stuttgart without any problems. The box body is 1.64 meters long, 1.30 meters wide and 1.30 meters high. Consequently, a loading volume of up to 2.8 m³ is possible and a lot of rolls and cakes fit in the ARI. Thanks to the side roller doors in the box body, loading and unloading is quick and easy, so that the goods always arrive fresh at their destination.

 

The [ARI 458 Box XL](/en/light-electric-vans/ari-458/box) replaces a Piaggio Porter and is already the fourth electric vehicle of the family business. Two street scooters named (roughly translated) “Particle Accelerator” and “Racing Bun” are available for large deliveries. The versatile and practical [ARI 458 light electric van](/en/light-electric-vans) was given the name "Krümmelchen", a diminutive of the German word for “crumble”. According to owner Falk Hafendörfer, the vehicles particularly popular with children. And so "Krümmelchen" travels around 30 kilometres a day in the narrow inner-city streets of Stuttgart to distribute freshly baked goods in the city.

 

Perhaps the cute [ARI 458](/en/light-electric-vans) reminds Herr Hafendörfer of his first car: a 1957 BMW Isetta in vineyard red, which he still owns. In any case, we wish the "Bäckerei Hafendörfer" always a safe journey, happy baking and that the tradition of electromobile progress lives on.

Yes. Every ARI Motors electric transport vehicle with a box body can be equipped with 300 watt solar panels. The solar panels will be installed on the roof of the box body and provide (during sunshine) the battery directly with solar-powered electricity. This works while driving as well as while standing.

Via the solar panels the range can be extended up to 30 km during strong sunlight. Therefor, the driver always has a “spare can” that supports the vehicle with energy. Consequently, if the daily driving route is not longer than 20 to 30 km (12 to 19 mi.), the ARI 458 electric transport vehicle can be driven with solar energy for free. If the route is longer, the solar panels are a permanent support and can compensate for example the use of the optional air conditioning and thereby keeping a steady range.
