ARI 901 XL long-distance test: How far can the electric van really go?
The ARI 901 XL is actually designed for last-mile deliveries - quiet, efficient and compact enough for tight city centers. But what happens when you take an electric van like this on longer journeys, such as across the country? Our long-distance test in winter provides the answers.
The ARI 901 XL was put through its paces in frosty temperatures, on sections of highway and with a real load. The aim was to find out how far you can actually get on one battery charge - and whether fast charging is practical on the road.
Start in sub-zero temperatures: Realistic conditions instead of laboratory values
At the start of the test, the battery was fully charged at the wallbox via type 2. The display showed a range of around 230 kilometers, which, as with all e-vehicles, adapts dynamically to the driving style, temperature and topography.
After just a few kilometers, it became clear that those who drive with foresight and use recuperation can noticeably save energy. The electric heating ran continuously and comfort was deliberately not sacrificed - a realistic scenario for everyday working life.
Fast charging on the route: coffee instead of a refueling stop
After around 150 kilometers, we reached the first fast-charging station. The ARI 901 XL charges with up to 45 kW via the CCS connection - enough to restore the battery to 80% in around 40 minutes. In practice, this is roughly equivalent to a coffee break or a short stopover at the customer's premises.
In the optimum charging range between 20% and 80%, the charging power remains constantly high, which clearly demonstrates the time advantage over conventional charging at the household socket.
Consumption and range: realistic values in winter
On the freeway, at speeds of around 90 to 100 km/h, consumption hovered between 16 and 17 kWh per 100 kilometers. The test thus confirms that the official range specification of around 200 kilometers is realistic - even at low temperatures.
After just under 190 kilometers, the battery still had around 25 kilometers of range remaining - without an additional charging pause and without restricting comfort or speed. The ARI 901 XL thus proves that electric mobility also works over longer distances.
Comfort and space do not fall by the wayside
Despite its efficiency, the ARI 901 XL remains a fully-fledged van. With a load volume of 6.4 m³, a loading length of up to 4.10 meters and a payload of over 1.3 tons, it is ideal for trade, courier services or service operations.
Its compact dimensions - 4.86 meters long and 1.99 meters high - also make it suitable for parking garages and everyday use in city traffic. The driving experience remains calm and stable even after hours on the highway, supported by the powerful 60 kW engine.
Conclusion: everyday and long-distance suitability combined
The long-distance test in winter clearly shows that modern electric vans are no longer just city vehicles. The ARI 901 XL combines a long range, short charging times and a large payload - with low fuel consumption and low operating costs.
So if you want to switch to electric mobility without sacrificing flexibility, the ARI 901 XL is the ideal companion - for short journeys, long distances and everything in between.
